#WorldwideRoutes with David Bailey MBE - Mali

David Bailey presents #WorldwideRoutes, your weekly eclectic selection of world, roots and folk music on ZoneOneRadio - the Mayor of London-funded community radio station for Central London.

This week is a Mali special

The recent turmoil in Mali inspired David to put together a special episode exploring the diverse and outstanding music of the West African country.

The journey around the different influences predominant in Mali takes us from Deep South bar-room blues of Ali Farka Toure to the dreamy arabic vibes of traditional Malian singer Rokia Traore.

There is also a song from 'The Nightingale of the North' Khaira Arby, who was recently threatened with having her tongue cut out if she continues to perform her music. In exploring the music of Mali, hopefully we begin to understand the country more.
